In August, the world’s largest WWII reenactment takes place in Conneaut, Ohio. This living history event depicts the D-Day battle with over 1,700 reenactors from all over the world. The battle takes place at the Conneaut Township Park. This three-day event has so much to offer everyone!
Even though I was only there one day, I was able to see several battles. It is overwhelming to hear the amount of “gunfire” that takes place during each reenactment. I can only imagine the amount of strength and courage it must take to have to endure this in real life.
This entire event is free and offers plenty of parking with shuttle service. You can even get a free tour on a Higgins boat! This boat was instrumental in the D-Day battle and is credited as the reason that the US won the war. If you’re a history buff or just learning, this is the place to be.
Be sure to check the website at ddayohio.us for all events. This year they offered flights on the C-47 Whiskey 7. There are also numerous displays featuring armor and artillery, victory gardens, medic training, a D-Day Museum, and a ton more!
Although this was only a reenactment and the battles were only mock battles, I gained a lot of perspective from what I saw there that day. From the battlefields to the women who stayed home to keep this country running, it truly is impressive to see this country work as a team.
Happy Veterans Day! I am eternally grateful for every man, woman, and the families of everyone in the military. It’s because of the dedication of these brave men and women that we can live a life with so much freedom. Not every country is blessed enough to say that.
Here’s a free Ohio printable. I like to use these as a marker in my albums. You can also print the page and use it as the first picture you take on your Ohio adventure! Use #postcard50 to show me your travel pictures. Have you been to Ohio??? I would love to know what you’ve done there.
