Trips and Travel-Postcard 50

Inspiration to travel 50 by 50

My friend and boss Greg inspired me to see all 50 states by the time I turned 50. On a flight back to Chicago, Greg started to count the states that he had visited. He was surprised to find that he had been to nearly all 50 states. With his 50th birthday quickly approaching, he decided to try to see all 50 by 50. We found interesting projects and events in the remaining 7 states that he had yet to visit, and with that, I started collecting my 50 too!

Travel Past

As a kid, travel was all about visiting family and relaxing. My family rarely did any exploring, and except for going to Wisconsin Dells, we would always vacation in Mexico. It always gave me a new perspective on life each time we traveled. Since our vacations were usually two weeks long, I would have a good idea of what it felt like to live in a home away from our home in Chicago. I fondly remember the days of waiting in line to get tortillas in Puebla. The cutest old lady was faithfully there, selling blue corn tortillas, year after year, morning after morning. My friend Monica and I would scour the shelves at the tiny little paper store to find the best stickers. Every night was spent around a large dinner table with family.

Travel Present & Postcard 50

Although my trips are shorter and often work-related, I still look for that particular spot around the corner that just might be a share-worthy post or family memory.  These days I also have the added challenge of trying to find the most delicious foods that are still in line with eating paleo.  I try to keep things in perspective and only veer from my diet when I need to. In the long run, my trips are more enjoyable when it doesn’t feel like I’m carrying an 8lb bowling ball in my belly.

Travel Tips and Ideas #postcard50

We’re blessed to be able to move around this country/world so easily, and I hope you get the chance to travel to all 50 states and beyond! I would love it if you could share something that you enjoy to do in your state! Who knows, you just might catch me taking pictures and making memories in your neck of the woods.

Cheers to trips, travel, and postcard 50!
